La
Virtud Negra
Commissioned
by the Walker Art Center as part of their "Out There"
series, this wild full evening work is a retelling of
"La Celestina" by Fernando Rojas in the 'film noir' style.
An illustrious Madame is found dead... thrown off the
top floor of the Walker Art Center - who did it? The mystery
unfolds with the video work of Lynn Lukkas, the narration
of Jim Stowell, and eight dancers. Live music composed
by Pedro Cortés Jr., with guitar, percussion, piano,
saxophone and the voice of Manolo Segura, make this one
of Zorongo's most popular works.
If
one could use a single word to describe Susana di Palma
and her company Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theatre, it would
be passion. The woman cant operate any
other way. In La Virtud Negra she virtually
explodes on stage in a multimedia extravaganza. She has
taken her art to new heights.
